..yesterday...to remember why I enjoy my life...
The night before, I'd sent out an "A P B" to all our friends...looking for a new job for my Cowboy! Much to his 'embarrassment', he had the phone lines tied up ALL day talking to all the well wishers & listening to suggestions. (and he hates talking on the phone! Yes, swelling was W-A-Y down, so he could finally talk).
He wasn't mad at me for my panicking APB...he understands, was just embarrassed he said. I told him I didn't care if he became a Nanny!
He said "what? a Nanny Goat?" My reply was..."don't care, if it pays....go for it!"
Amazingly, he had calls from not only friends, but friends of friends we don't even know!
I spent the day outside...weeding what is left of my veggie garden from the storm passing through last week. Discouraged at the losses? Yes, but relieved that I have some surplus left in the freezer & jars from last years harvest.
I pack 3 "garden" tools in my back pocket all day long are :
A) Long Screwdriver~ for weeding
B) Old Kitchen knife ~ edging the grasses creeping into flower beds
C) Scissors~ (by at Michaels in pks of 3) ~ for snippping what needs it, deadheading, killing grubs & other varmits I encounter, and for edging my lawn.
Hubby and all, think I'm nuts...but a clean sharp edge to my lawn makes me feel like my efforts have paid off. I am with my yard, as he is with his barnyard...I want it spic and span! I actually do go around my WHOLE lawn with scissors...blisters follow, but they go away before the next time I need to do it.
I weeded to settle my thoughts of fleeing this life. On my hands & knees, one by one...I stab the ground with the screwdriver, add some pressure and Voila! the weed comes out easily! (my raised rows with veggies is easy to pull as the soil is enriched with compost each year, it's the walking aisle between that grows weeds harder to pull & they multiply quickly!)
I had the whole day to myself to reflect...even supper, because Hubby was truly on the phone from 8: a.m 'til after 11 pm.
I DO love the life we share
I DO love the remote location
I DO love the quiet
I DO love the clean fresh air we breathe
I DO love the gifts of Nature around us
I DO love sharing the earth with God's creatures
For now....I am happy and content
(doesn't mean later today, or tomorrw, life won't throw another wrench at us...but I'll deal with that if it comes....)

Sometimes it's just easier to think everyone elses way of life is so much better, easier, nicer, etc.
And it may be. For them.
It's what you make of the life you live that matters most. Through good times and Cowboy times. ;)
So you used the "phone torture" technique on him, eh? Oh... but you are a sly one. :P
Glad to see your dark day has had it's dawn. You'll be back to weedin' in no time.
Hey Barb,
Sometimes, when things get tough, I just count my blessings and hang in there, cause I'm too blessed to be stressed! (I am sorrounded by God's beautiful Nature as well.)
I like your weeding tools.
Congratulations on the award! Thanks so much for visiting my blog.
Blessings to you and your cowboy!
Renie
Good morning Barb :)
You use the same gardening tools I do!! Although your jeans look smaller... hmmm... ;)
I love your list. It's funny how gardening or even housecleaning puts things into perspective. I've had more genious thoughts doing those two things than anyone in their right mind should LOL
By the way, thank you for the thought (award), but I'm just happy you like my blog at all! Actually although I love awards, it's such a stress ball to give them out, I hardly ever do. I feel awful for those that don't get it. The guilt is horrible! You know... last kid picked for the team. ugh.
I can't wait to get over hear and see what you're up to everyday :)

You gotta take the good with the bad. (prior posts)and hope cowboy is doing better.
And as for this post, I don't kill myself on weeds, I look at it like this, "Weeds give your garden character"
See, isisint that easier?
Great blog ! I would love to see it listed at herblogdirectory.com and if you may be up for it maybe an interview at herblogradio.com ? ? ?

The clean air and quiet.... my dream. I love specialized garden tools... my favorite is the three prong thingy thats missing 2 prongs! Like a bent screwdriver. Coffee is on the way! Enjoy.

I like your weeding tools! I too like my yard edged, it just makes it look so professional. I have an old pair of scissors that I LOVE to deadhead with, they aren't worth a plug nickel but for deadheading they are the best!
Sarah~ "Through good times and Cowboy times. ;)" ... hmmmmmmmare ya sure 'bout that??? (Yep, you are right!)
LL~ phone torture works everytime! IF he'll actually pick it up! I refused to the other day! ;)
Renie~ Thanks for coming by again! "too blessed to be stressed"? Wish I could walk in your shoes more often
Rue, dear adopted daughter~ Jean size? Wish they WERE bigger! Maybe I wouldn't hurt so bad after all these years of doing things my size wasn't made for! LOL!
JennyC&F~ I agree, sometimes weeds do add character..and they sometimes get left to show the world! but then I get GRRRRRR!
TOCCO~ Amazing what "tools of the trade" we find most useful and comfortable! Better'n any store bought garden tools in my book! I can't wait to try the coffee!!! Thx!
Midlife Mom~ The scissors I get at Michaels are 3/pk for $5...and they will last me about 2 seasons. Can't live without them!
Karrine~ Thanks for coming by. I'll got see what herblogdirectory is all about.
What the.. I know I posted on this the other day! Because I was laughing at your "gardening tools" I have that same set! Plus an old butter knife, for stubborn dandelions!
Oops found my comment ! Teach me to try to kill two stud horses with one shot!! I added it to my "You derserve it" Award post!
I am just catching up on my reading. I am relieved to hear that your cowboy is doing well. I've experienced some bad horse wrecks...and it's never a good thing.
