Where's the song ~~ "Don't let your daughters grow up to marry a Cowboy" ?

Life is tough! Requires hard physical work, long, long days of pain, dirt, and broken fingernails.
Days of frigid cold & scorching heat; through the dust & mud; daybreak into the darkness of nite~~
the heart & body becomes toughened & weathered replicating leather!
A forever constant factor for a real Cowboy's Wife is tons of sweat, oceans of tears and a constant 'drought' in the wallet!

That's it? I feel so used now... ;)

Best of fortune to the HOW, that can't be what you two were hoping for...

Sage said...

Poor Cowboy and you, that must be a dreadful result. I was kinda hoping for something a little less dire but you and Cowboy will pull something out of the hat, no idea what but big {{hugs}} for you both.

Well........we know all about knee replacements here.Hubby had right replaced four years ago.Left one is scheduled for july. My stepmother is in the hospital now
having had her left done Tuesday. I have an appointment the 17th to have my right one looked at as it has been killing me for three weeks!
Give my best to Cowboy, I feel his pain!

You, Barb, are a wordsmith with magic powers. The way you turn a story into lyrically eloquent - and often humorous - poetry is absolutely breathtaking! The tale of an oft-injured knee is, in your hands, a little treasure of folk literature. Seriously, you have the power, lady!

Hope that Cowboy's bald knee stops hurting again soon, especially as he risks being shot as an intruder if it doesn't!

wordmama said...

Oh no! Poor cowboy! Those boys never do learn. They've all got a little kamakazee in the blood. Here's hoping for a knee miracle for cowboy!

terri said...

Poor Cowboy. I'll say a little prayer for a little knee miracle.

Mrs. Mom said...

Amen to that WoW and Cowboy! Get him some WD-40 there WOW, and lube him up ;)

(KIDDING! I AM KIDDING!)

Ouch, I know that is painful, my husband has had bone on bone in the shoulder, they just cut some of it off. Thinking of you and wishing you the best, whatever that may be.

Unknown said...

Sorry to hear this.
My son-in-law is a farrier and I worry about something like this happening to him all the time. Maybe after awhile, Cowboy might reconsider. I have a friend who said it was the best decision he ever made. I feel for you two.

Cactus Jack Splash said...

That was so well written, you really need to do a book! Hope cowboy's knee gets to feeling better. My goodness but he has banged that knee around. I can understand putting off that surgery...been doing that myself.
Take care.

Jenn said...

WOW
You know HOW is better off just getting the surgery done. This is something that can't be put off too long. You don't want anymore bone wearing off then need be. I'd say get it done while there is still a chance at recovery without an amputation or something.
Big hugs to you both
Lubber your cyber sissy

I'm agreeing with Red, not that you want my opinion! Think of how good Cowboy will be after that durned knee is fixed! Do it now, while the weather is crappy!

Hang in there, ya know I'm praying for ya!

~Blessings~

Shirley said...

That is not good. And ignoring it will make things worse- bone on bone will only wear away more bone, especially given Cowboy's active lifestyle. If surgery isn't going to happen (and you know that it's inevitable, just not right now)then perhaps this is God's way of telling you that it's time to do something different in your life. Somehow I can't see Cowboy giving up his lifestyle, but there must be an element of it that he can do that do that won't stress his knee. How about teaching farriery?

Glenda, saved by grace said...

Well cowboy, thats what happens when you abuse your knee when your young. I say quit yer belly achin and "git 'er done".
just sayin...
no really! I hope everything turns out O.K. you'll both be in my prayers!

How awful for you both, but especially for HOW. My advice (if you really want advice from a Bossie) is don't put it off. Have the replacement and life will be good again :)

LOVED how you painted all that for us!! I SOOOOOO enjoy your writing. Would you stop lollygaggin' around with that man and all those horses and get down to some REAL work? Like writing fulltime? LOL

My aunt has had two knee replacements and it has given her a new life. I thought she was a goner. Hope he can get that new knee. If he can, he'll be able to catch you when he chases you. :)

You're both in our prayers :)
It MAY be time for a career adjustment, but putting off the surgery make things worse off down the line. Hey, my Papa had a knee replacement in his late 70's and he got around fine!!
Please tell him to take it easy (I recommend ALOT of Duct Tape!!!!)

Sherry Sikstrom said...

My goodness he must be in such pain! sounds like surgery may in fact be the best choice,(i don't knoe if he can walk this one off)
would cortisne help at this point?
Hugs, and prayers to you both

Far Side of Fifty said...

Not good news, I am so sorry, if it ain't one thing it is another. They have that knee replacement surgery down to a fine science now. You better get him a walker..the other knee better be in good shape..cause now it is bearing the weight of both knees. Tell him to be carefull:)

The Wife said...

Lord have mercy! So did you keep the door open so he could crawl all the way into the house! ;o) I see a hover-round scooter in his future!

My cowboy has horrible shoulders. Had three surgeries and is in need of more. But like y'all, he needs to work so we can eat. Poor guy deals with the pain everyday.

DesertHen said...

Love the part about you grabbing the shotgun to get rid of the intruder...he, he, wink, wink. If that didn't get Cowboy up off the ground, then he really must be a hurt'in! I'm sure you were not expecting to hear he is in need of a total knee replacement...that must have been a shock! One can't be down long when one needs to work to survive! Hayman is dealing with a back issue that has been going on for years. He told me the other day he can feel grinding in his lower back, which I'm sure means bone on bone...not good! Nothing to be done as we don't have the kind of money it would take for surgery, etc....We must survive, so he will "cowboy up" and keep on go'in. ((((HUGS))) for you and Cowboy. Hang in there!

Girl, that really stinks. But it's not going to get any better...what's his plan? My grandma had her knee done two years ago..you can't slow her down now and she's 80! Dadgum ponies!

Hey Missy-Put your foot down and tell him its a have to deal. My husband was a horse shoer-we never used the word farrier-for many a year-not full time-he worked as general manager on a big quarter horse ranch for a long time-shoeing horses was just part of his job-then the ranch sold, we came here-he was a union ironworker-harder work anytime than ranch work-but his horse shoeing reputation followed him and still did that after work and on weekends. His back is horrible and his knees are doing "o.K.", but if it came down to it, I'm sure he would do the replacement-he would say-"not gonna get me where I can't walk-the alternative is for the birds." So, try and reason with your cowboy -tell him you "refuse to push him around in some chair-so he needs to take a choice. And you still are going to feel like dancin'sometimes." Good luck, Bobbie

Gail said...

I know a cowboy that just had two replacements within three weeks. I talked to him yesterday and he is doing great. He said for the first time in years, he can walk straight.

Amanda said...

Oh my gosh, I hope you have some insurance. I worry all the time about what would happen to us if..... because we simply can not afford it!! I pray he gets some relief soon.

Annie Wicking said...

My very best wishes are with you both. Thank you for sharing Cowsboy's knee history with us.

I guess there are times when riding off into the sunset is the best way to sort out problems.

Good luck & I hope you have some good news soon.

A friend of mine had double knee replacement and he says it's the best decision he ever made - no more pain and he's back doing the things he loves. But it is something that you and your cowboy should weigh carefully.
Please come by my blog to pick up the Honest Scrap Award, for which i have nominated you.

Man O man; I know how you feel. DodgeMan dealt with knee pain for 7 years before he was able to have the surgery. I swear Barb, if I had the extra money( like lots of it) I'd be there in a heartbeat to pay for HOW's surgery...cause it shouldn't be put off for too much longer. Take care m'dear....Something will turn out for you both. Teresa
P.S. I did some refabricating to my blog, maybe now it will update and you can visit me too??

Hey darlin', this was fantastic writing but I'm so sorry to hear about Cowboy's knee. It sucks weenies, but you know that it's gonna have to be done sooner rather than later. You KNOW that, don't you? It's not all that big a deal (well it is, but not in the big scheme of things) and my Old Guy got through his, with nary a whimper.

You're both in my thoughts and prayers...

Vaquerogirl said...

A knee replacement might keep Cowboy from having a heart replacement. Seeing you standing in the house with a shotgun aimed at an ' intruder' might have given him a heart attack! My ex , the firefighter , had one done after two bad accidents. He's back running up ladders to save kittens!

Gosh, what a list of mishaps. The way in which you presented it though, made me smile. You've got style, cowboy wife. He will have it taken care of, right?

Just wanted to let you know that you are in our prayers. I told Ron (hubby) about it and how they say it is not a neccessary surgery. He was as sickened as I was. Girl what is this world coming to?
